Use this list to notice things you want help with. It cannot assess the cause of a fall or replace a health review.
Routes and lighting
- Note loose cables, rugs or clutter on the routes you use.
- Check whether lights and switches are within reach.
- Think about the journey to the toilet at night.
- Write down tasks that involve awkward reaching or carrying.
NHS inform's home hazard guidance discusses lighting, storage and household surroundings. Ask someone you trust to look with you if that would help; don't attempt a difficult job just to complete the checklist.
Daily routines
Note where you need to hurry, hold furniture or ask for assistance. Include getting dressed, answering the door and taking food to the table. Discuss equipment and changes with an assessor rather than improvising supports.
Health questions belong with a professional
If you have fallen, or are worried about balance, speak to a healthcare professional. NHS falls guidance explains routes to help. A product purchase cannot establish why a fall happened. Do not change medicines yourself; ask the prescriber or pharmacist about concerns.
Add your notes to the home adaptation planner for an appointment. Health and social care services differ across the UK.
